In their East meets West face-off, Providence Roller Derby’s Riveters (ranked #79 as of the latest February rankings) will be hosting Pikes Peak Derby Dames (#93) on Saturday April 25th. Both teams are lacing up and rolling in to fight for the win on Providence’s new home turf. Not only will this be the first time either team has played one another, it will also be the first bout at Providence Roller Derby’s new venue, Brown Meehan Auditorium, located on the Brown University campus.

Lead by head coach, Pain Newton, Pikes Peak will be jamming into little Rhodey with some wins and one loss under their skates, having smashingly defeated Junction City Roller Dolls (#94), Wasatch Roller Derby (#33) in unsanctioned play and Rocky Mountain Roller Girls (#12) B-Team (unranked) with only one loss to Sacred City Derby Girls (#49) by 47 points. It is expected that there will be some shifting in April’s rankings after these incredible upsets.  (correction: the games referenced were in unsanctioned play and do not count towards rankings, the author apologizes for the mistake).

Despite a little rough weather at the beginning of the season, Providence’s spirits remain steadfast. Annie Trackburne (previously Unicoroner), a seasoned skater and new Providence Roller Derby member, offers fresh insight to the Riveters progress,

“We need to do what we do and not let other teams get in the way of that. I feel like we have gotten better and better during each bout at sticking to our own plan.”

Coaches Wes Turn and Harpie continue to provide the Riveters with new tools for their toolbox, focusing on both offensive and defensive strategies with an eye to bring home the elusive “W”.

Immediately following the Riveters match up will be a bonus second bout! The Rocky Point Rollers, Providence’s pick up team, will take on Boston’s C-Team. Stick around for your fill of roller derby and watch the progression of some newer skaters as they skate alongside veterans like Sun Scream and Smashley Olsen.
