Meet July’s featured veteran skater, Sis Boom Bonnie!

Affectionately called Sis, Sis Boom Bonnie is a loyal, headstrong Taurus and jill of all trades within Providence Roller Derby as Community Relations Coordinator and Inter-league Captain of the Killah Bees travel team.

Sis Boom Bonnie HeadshotWhat’s the background on your name/number?
“My name comes from a Garbage Pail Kid Card. The image is of a cheerleader puking into a megaphone. My number was an obvious choice as in the beginning digits of most cheerleading chants.”

Derby History/Athletic Background (if any):
“None and I was too cool to even participate in gym class. Cool…not cool?”

If you could change one derby rule, what would it be?
“Forearms wouldn’t be a penalty.”

Quote to live by:
“Any day above ground is a good day.”

Any pump-up jams?
Anything with a strong female singer. TLC, Salt N Pepa, SWV, En Vogue, Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, L7, Lunachicks, Gits.”

If you were stranded on a desert island with one teammate and one fictional character, who would you bring?
“I’d bring along [leaguemate] Puma Thurman for the riveting conversation and Uma Thurman’s character from ‘Kill Bill’ because she’d probably be able to keep us alive.”

Musician you’re most embarrassed to love:
Taylor Swift.  “I just can’t help it!”

“Life has taught me to not take myself or anyone else too seriously. People generally have the best of intentions and are only acting and reacting based on their perceptions of reality. Roller derby has taught me self-discipline and the importance of teamwork, kindness, and forgiveness.”
