Q: How did you get into roller derby?
A: One of the guys Mr. k-oz works with found PRD's website while he was up late one night surfing the web, thought it looked interesting, and convinced his co-workers to go to the next bout. So I went with a bunch of people I had never met before and Mr. k-oz to the 2006 Championship Bout and thought it looked wicked fun (which it is) so I decided to join.
Q: 2. Do the hits hurt as bad as they look on the concrete?
A: I've been pretty lucky and haven't had any nasty rink rash. Just the usual bumps and bruises. I don't think the concrete is any worse than skating indoors.
Q: Is having a derby name almost like having a superhero secret identity?
A: Sort of. Except I always have to explain my derby name so that takes some of the fun out of it. (Hint: Google "laws of thermodynamics" if you're still wondering.)
Q: What do you do for fun when you're not skating?
A: I'm really a 70 year old woman trapped in a 20-something's body: I like to bake, sew, and read whenever I can find the time to.
